Founded in 1958, the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) mission is to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world, while being responsive to customers and accountable to the public.
The FAA needed a way for users across the country to collaborate on internal projects within a secure network. Many of these projects required completion of regulatory forms, so they needed an inexpensive, paperless way for users to complete, track and manage them. Because the FAA is under strict auditing and compliance regulations, they also needed a secure solution to minimize the risk of divulging confidential information. Finally, due to the sensitivity and importance of these classified documents, they required a backup solution that guaranteed the safety of their data.
Frontpages provided the FAA with a dedicated Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 solution to allow users to collaborate and manage project information from multiple locations. Frontpages also added Microsoft Office Forms Server 2007 to the solution to accommodate the FAA’s need for paperless, web-based forms. Both applications run on top of Windows Server 2003.
Frontpages suggested a dedicated solution to ensure that project management occurred within a private, secure server environment. In addition, the FAA’s solution is housed in one of Frontpages’ SAS70 Type II, Tier 4, PCI compliant data centers. This fully redundant facility sits on a dual utility power grid and guarantees fast, secure and reliable data management. Finally, to warrant the highest level of data protection, the FAA subscribed to Frontpages Managed Services, which include 24/7 server monitoring, SSL encryption, intrusion detection, a dedicated firewall and SharePoint item level backup.
Through the use of a dedicated WSS solution, the FAA is able to engage in nationwide business collaboration, while guaranteeing secure access to confidential information via site permissions. In addition, Forms Server 07 saves time, money and resources by allowing users to fill out web-based forms in a secure, paperless environment.
Because this solution is housed in a SAS70 Type II, Tier 4, PCI compliant data center, the FAA can meet all regulatory compliance requirements and feel confident that their data is fully secured. Finally, Frontpages managed services allow the FAA to focus on their core business, rather than on the IT solution provided, thus improving business productivity.
