Outlook Express Setup Instructions

The following instructions cover typical usage of Outlook Express and assume the software has been installed correctly on your system.

The instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet connection, by modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy server, the information below may not work. Consult your network administrator for more information.

Once the domain name has propagated you can set up the account in Outlook Express by doing the following:

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Select Accounts from the Tools drop-down list.
3. This will bring you to the Internet Accounts dialog box.
4. Select the Add --> Mail button.
5. Enter a name in the Display Name field. (Note: This name will appear in the From field of all outgoing messages).
6. Click Next.
7. Enter the email address in the Email Address field.Click Next.
8. Enter the pop3 address in the Incoming Mail (pop3)ield.

   Note: This would be mail.yourdomainname.com.

9. Enter the SMTP address in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) field.

   Note: This would be mail.yourdomainname.com
   

10. Enter the valid username and password for your mail account.
    ** Important ** Your username is your full email address.
    For example, bob@yourdomain.com. 
11. Click Next. Click Finish.

My Server Requires Authentication

From your Outlook Express menu go to Tools, then Accounts, then Properties and then click on the Servers tab. Near the bottom of this dialog box you will see "Outgoing Mail Server" and below that click in the white box so a check mark appears next to "My server requires authentication."

If you have checked authentication and it still won't send use your Internet connection provider's SMTP server. Enter the SMTP address in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) field. For example, mail.earthlink.net.

With Outlook Express, you can setup additional mail accounts for every mailbox from which you need to retrieve mail.
