Mail Conversion Support
Welcome to the SmarterMail Conversion
Support site. The purpose of this site is to provide you
with answers to your questions regarding our email system
changes. This change will take place at 1:00AM Central
Time on February 24th, 2005.
The email system transition will provide the
following benefits:
- More reliable email system with increased
uptime
- Larger email boxes (coming soon)
- Better spam filtering
- More reliable anti-virus scanning
- Easier, more advanced web mail system
What will change?
- SmarterMail features a cleaner, faster, more professional
looking interface with online spell checking. Please
see the
SmarterMail Documentation for details.
-
If you use the Web Mail client, you will need to use your full
email address as your new login ID. For example,
'user@mydomain.com' as opposed to 'user'. Please see the
Transition FAQ for more information.
-
If you use an email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora) you will need to use your full
email address as your new login ID. For example,
'user@mydomain.com' as opposed to 'user'. Please see the
Transition FAQ for more information.
-
Email domains at Frontpages Web Hosting Network will no longer
use unique IP addresses. This should not be a significant issue
for the vast majority of our clients. If you are
hosting your DNS server outside of the Frontpages Web Hosting
Network, you will need to make a change to your mail 'A Record'.
Please see the
Transition FAQ for more information.
What will stay the same?
- Your email domain name will not change. For example, 'mail.yourdomain.com'
will continue to be your email domain for email client
software and web mail access.
- All the email accounts you have created in your email domain will continue to function.
- The passwords for all your email accounts will remain unchanged after the transfer.
- Your stored emails will be saved. Any emails stored on the server will transfer from your old iMail inbox to your new SmarterMail inbox.
Am I ready for the transition?
- As long as your email client is
using your email domain name (for example 'mail.yourdomain.com')
for incoming and outgoing communications, no changes will need
to be made. If you happen to be using an IP address for
incoming and outgoing communications in your email client (for
example '123.123.123.123') you will need to change these
settings to use your email domain name. Please see the
email
client setup instructions for more information.
- If you are hosting your DNS server outside of the Frontpages Web
Hosting Network, you will need to make a change to your mail 'A
Record'. Please see the
Transition FAQ for more information. Please note: this
will not be necessary for the vast majority of our clients.
Please see the
Transition FAQ if you are not sure whether or not you host your
DNS with Frontpages Web Hosting.
