How do I log in to the new Web Mail or Outlook client?
How will the Web Mail client change?
Why am I losing my dedicated mail IP address?
How do I know if my DNS is hosted outside of the Frontpage Network?
How do I update a DNS entry hosted outside of the Frontpage Network?
Will there be any downtime associated with the transition?
Will my user ID change?
Yes. You will have to use your
full email
address as your new user ID
(for example
'user@mydomain.com' instead of just 'user') when
checking your email via WebMail or Outlook.
Will my password change?
No. Your password for your email account will be migrated to the new SmarterMail system as part of our conversion process.
Will I lose my other domain email accounts?
No. All of the accounts that were configured for your email domain either by Frontpages Web Hosting Network staff or you, the customer will be migrated to the new SmarterMail system as part of the conversion process.
Will I lose any email?
No. If you keep email stored on the mail server, it will be migrated to your new SmarterMail account as part of the migration process. If you keep your email downloaded to your local email client, the transition will also have no effect on your saved email. Any email that is waiting on the server to be downloaded to your client will be transferred to your new SmarterMail account.
However, Any email that is delivered or received during the actual switchover process (between 1-2 hours February 24th beginning at 1:00am Central Time) will fail. The sender will receive a response that the message failed delivery.
How do I log in to the new Web Mail or Outlook client?
Please see our
SmarterMail Web Mail Support Site for information on
the changes associated with the new SmarterMail system.
Please note: you will have to use your
full email
address as your new user ID (for example
'user@mydomain.com' instead of just 'user').
How will the Web Mail client change?
SmarterMail features a cleaner, faster, more professional looking interface with online spell checking. Please see the SmarterMail Documentation for details.
Why am I losing my dedicated mail IP address?
In order to send and receive mail, all email domains need something called an MX Record. An MX record requires a name for an email domain. Email cannot be sent with an IP address only. There is no customer benefit to having a dedicated mail domain address. SmarterMail gives Frontpages Web Hosting Network the ability to reclaim hundreds of wasted IP addresses. This will help us keep web hosting costs down in the future. If you are hosting your DNS service outside of the Frontpages Web Hosting Network, you will have to make a change to your mail A Record.
How do I know if my DNS is hosted outside of the Frontpage Network?
In most cases, if you are asking yourself this question, the answer will be 'no'. If you are not sure who hosts your DNS servers, you can check via the internet. Go to the following link: http://www.easywhois.com. This link will open in a new browser window. Type the domain name in question in the field provided (for example 'domain.com'). Enter the number you see in the field below. Click 'next' to continue. In the data that follows, look for an entry called, 'Nameservers:'. If your domain DNS is hosted with Frontpages Web Hosting Network, you will see the following 'nameserver' entries:
NS1.FMS4U.COM
NS2.FMS4U.COM
If you see these entries, your DNS is hosted with Frontpages Web Hosting Network. We will make the necessary changes on your behalf. There is nothing for you to do. If you see any entries other than these, your DNS is hosted out side of the Frontpage Network. You will want to contact the 'Technical Contact' listing on that page for further information.
How do I update a DNS entry hosted outside of the Frontpage Network?
The 'A Record' for your mail domain name (usually 'mail.yourdomain.com') will need to have its IP address changed from its current listing to '123.123.123.123' (without the quotes). Usually a network engineer must perform this work on your behalf. Please be certain that you are in fact hosting your email with Frontpages Web Hosting Network before requesting this DNS change.
Will there be any downtime associated with the transition?
Yes, there will be a short outage of approximately 1-2 hours beginning at 1:00AM Central Time on February 24th, 2005 while we perform the mail transition. Please note that any email sent to your Frontpage account or sent from your Frontpage account during this outage will NOT be delivered successfully. Anyone who attempts to send to or from one of these accounts will receive an error message stating that the user account or domain can not be found. We will endeavor to make this transition occur as quickly as possible, but a small outage cannot be avoided due to technical concerns beyond our control.
